Scrapbooking
is rapidly becoming one of the most popular craft/hobbies in the
country. It's a rewarding hobby that provides loved ones with a
treasure of memories they can keep for years to come. It's built with
love and labor and what could be more fun and sentimental than that?
Planning a
scrapbook page or layout is much like planning a greeting card. All
it requires is a theme, a bit of time, and your creative ideas. Here
are some facts and steps to help you get started in the wonderful
world of Scrapbooking:
Get those
pictures out of shoeboxes and onto the coffee table where they can be enjoyed!!
-
Begin by
organizing your photos by subjects: People, Places, Things,
Activities, Holidays and so forth. Then sort each category into
chronological order. Some people like to start with theme books like
Weddings, Christmas, or a babys first book. But if you want something
a bit more general try scrapbooking your most recent photos first and
working your way backwards. By doing this you will be able to journal
your freshest thoughts first which will help your book to be more
through about detail.
Select
photos with which to build a theme for your page...
-
Everything
that touches your photos should be archival quality, which means,
Photo-safe. Check out my Basics
101 Page
for more description on what this means.
-
Start by
cropping photos to desired shapes, using scissors, trimmers, die
cuts, stencils, corner borders, craft punches, etc. Next, select
enhancing texture papers or create your own by using our Acrylix
stamps. Before adhering anything to your page, experiment with the
layout by moving things around until you are satisfied with the
results and then finally adhere your page together.
Assemble
your finished pages in chronological order to tell the story.
-
Add
embellishments to your pages for a more appealing and detailed look
such as wire, beads, tags, fibers, etc. Add memorabilia to your pages
to help expand on the story that is being told such as with love
letters, theatre tickets, plane tickets, old coins, etc.
