Close To My
Heart products are a wonderful, safe choice when it comes to
scrapbooking your most cherished memories. And keeping that in mind I
would like to teach you a few tips to help keep your albums in the
best shape for years to come.
First
off...please remember to remove any photos you currently have in
sticky magnetic photo albums. These types of albums are very damaging
to your photos and memorabilia. Also, please remember that using a
pencil or ball point pen to label your pictures can be very damaging
as well.
Now, here are
some quick tips to remember when you're starting to scrapbook...
pH SCALE
When choosing
photo safe papers, pens, adhesives and other products that will come
in contact with your photos, please choose products that are between
a 7.0 and 9.0 on the pH scale. What does this mean exacxtly? A pH
scale runs from 0-14 with 7 being considered neutral. The lower the
number on the pH scale, the more acidic the product is. Close To My
Heart offers a wonderful line of products that have been tested for
safety. If you have questions about anything please feel free to ask me.
LIGNIN FREE PAPER
What is
Lignin? Lignin is a natural substance that is found in wood and plant
matter. It can turn brown over time and will deposit damaging acids
and peroxides onto your photos. It is often found in newspapers or
cardboard. The wonderful line of Exclusive Close To My Heart Papers
are lignin free which makes our line a popular choice. If using other
papers please make sure that you check to make sure that they are
lignin free which means it contains less than 1% Lignin.
BUFFERED PAPER
Buffered paper
is another important element when scrapbooking. By using buffered
paper to mount your photos it will increase the life of the paper and
help to protect your photos and memoribilia much longer. But exactly
does buffered paper do? Buffered Paper has calcium carbonate added to
counteract the acids that can form and damage your photos. It works
as a type of neutralizer which buffs out the acid which can be
damaging to the elements of your scrapbook.
OTHER
SAFETY METHODS
Even though
you are now educated on the papers you are using in your scrapbooks,
what about the other elements you have chosen to use? Here are a few
other safety methods to practice:
Use acid free
page protectors such as the ones Close To My Heart offers. Matte or Clear.
Keep your
scrapbooks and photos away from direct sunlight and ultraviolet light.
Keep your
scrapbooks and photos away from water and high humidity.
When
embellishing your photos with "baby's first haircut",
"coins" or other similar mementos, do not use rubber bands,
paper clips, harsh plastics masking tape or scotch tape to attach
them with. Close To My Heart Memorabillia Pockets are the safe,
alternative choice. |
